David Middleton's The Acionna Projects has a James Bond type feel to it as it moves around the globe to different locations, drawing together characters that are all connected to one another by one of the planet's most vital resources, namely water. There is a real human tale set against a backdrop of espionage and wonderful geography, but David Middleton also makes a cogent and serious point with his story about the declining and arguably most important resource that we all take for granted. The Acionna Projects does not however lecture or dictate; rather it leaves the reader to enjoy this tale with a tense and pacey outcome. Draw your own conclusions about the vulnerability of water supplies and the possible threats to world security that may lie ahead. Cleverly written, the reader will increase their level of knowledge and education with this thought provoking text which weaves an ethical commentary into an intriguing tale of different groups and factions, with the outcome uncertain until the last drop of ink has flowed from the writers' pen.
