After You've Gone by The Legendary Shack Shakers

2017 | Rock

Ever-reliable Nashville band the Legendary Shack Shakers delivers another set filled with wild tales tempered with reflection with After You've Gone. The roots rock outfit's latest album takes its influence both from the band's long-running fascination with swampy Southern folklore and the very real emotional fallout from frontman JD Wilkes' divorce.

The crackling distortion and unpolished, howling vocals of "Curse of the Cajun Queen" set the album's energetic, unhinged tone, while "Worried" takes on a gently maniacal Dixieland swagger, and "Frankenstein" sounds like the rowdiest honky tonk bar in the county, managed by a revivalist preacher gone to the dark side.
