2016 | Fiction & Poetry
Living in what was then East Pakistan in 1971 Hasan is only ten years old when he witnesses his father, along with many other innocent villagers, brutally murdered by the Pakistani army (in the name of religion). At school bullying, violence and beatings are commonplace. In early adulthood, Hasan is recruited by his friend Rasel to Kafela-e-Islam (a radical Islamic party) and gets drawn into political killings. At one point Hasan and Rasel come to the UK, seek political asylum and get involved with an even more radical party. This party is keen on destroying a major city. Violent death again affects his family and too late Hasan realises that he has been duped by those he thought were his mentors and he seeks vengeance.
