2014 | Biography
This is a personal look at one life, lived by an ordinary guy, who has visited some extraordinary places. From Scotland to Saudi Arabia, Allan M. Jack's autobiography takes you on a journey through education, marriage, geology, apartheid, travel and everything in between. Allan sets the scene with stories of his parents and grandparents, including descriptions of his Scottish home village, Gartmore. This is followed by a chronicle of his schooldays and a somewhat chequered and chaotic career at Glasgow University and the University of Cape Town in South Africa, with asides including love and marriage, youth organisations and various sporting activities! Journey with Allan, his wife and their three children as they face the reality of apartheid in South Africa for eleven years and, after a particularly close-to-home bombing experience, are driven back home to the UK for sixteen years. Engage in an ongoing family history, into which Allan weaves stories of his travels around Europe, Africa, the Middle East, the USA, Chile, Baku, Kazakhstan and Singapore, and finally ending up in Saudi Arabia where he joins a small junior mining company.
Written to give his descendants an idea of what he did with his life, Allan's book will appeal to those interested in travelling, exotic lands, history and biographies.
