The novelisation of Francis Durbridge's 1938 radio serial Send for Paul Temple. Johnny Washington, an amiable young man from America, boasts a widely varied acquaintance in all levels of English society, from crooks to countesses. He has been involved in numerous coups which have at times brought him perilously near to the shady side of the law. However, when a gang of desperate criminals, led by an elusive and unscrupulous characters who hides under the pseudonym "Grey Moose" begins to leave cards inscribed, "With the compliments of Johnny Washington" on their crime scenes, Johnny decides to throw in his lot with the police for once.
