Both Cardi B's flow on the song and the song's title were inspired by Florida-based rapper Kodak Black and his 2014 song "No Flockin". Spending three weeks atop the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, it became the longest running number-one single for a female solo rap song. It made Cardi B the fifth female rapper to ever lead the Hot 100, and the first to do it with a solo output since Lauryn Hill's "Doo Wop (That Thing)" debuted atop the chart in 1998. The song won Single of the Year at the 2017 BET Hip Hop Awards.
