Sand dunes and scalpels, surfboards and shrapnel, blue sea and red blood, R&R and CPR... Welcome to China Beach. Part EVAC hospital, part USO entertainment center - this outpost of craziness and compassion introduces us to the Vietnam War through the eyes of the women who served there.
Season 2 welcomes journalist Wayloo Marie Holmes (Megan Gallagher), who embarrassingly quickly finds her derriere dotted with shrapnel, and Private Frankie Bunsen (Nancy Giles), who, just like all the other characters, has to discover the surreal China Beach reality, and deal with the loss of one of their own.
"Vets," a groundbreaking episode in television history and a centerpiece of the series, highlights the season by offering moving interviews of real-life veterans intercut with scenes from the show.
Season 2 concludes with nurse Colleen McMurphy (Dana Delany) going back to "The World." Home. Parents, brothers, friends, and a swirl of contradictory emotions. She has changed. How can she go back to war? Yet how can she not.
