Chirp! The original app for identifying and learning bird songs - and still the best!
As seen on Alexander Armstrong's phone on the BBC's Michael McIntyre's Big Show
Simon Mayo, BBC radio presenter: "Great app... Everyone loves it... Can I request a Bittern?"
Chosen by Apple for "Apps for the Great Outdoors"
"Identifying a bird by its song is fun and satisfying and this app is a great help" - The Telegraph, 500 Must-Have Apps
"Equal parts wildlife guide and feel-good pick-me-up" - The Guardian, "Top 10 Green Apps"
Chirp! includes more British birds than any other bird song ID app, and includes special features such as a ‘human translation’, to tell you what the bird is actually saying.
The identification and learning of bird songs can be hard, but not with Chirp!. A short description and helpful tips are given for each song or call, as well as a photo of each bird. Birds can be sorted by commonness, so you can listen to the most common ones first, then move on to rarer species. Or sort by song style, so that you can compare birds that hoot and coo, or those with high pitched songs for example. You can also sort by name, habitat or bird group.
After listening, try the quiz to test your memory. Answer fast to earn a score multiplier and get on the high score table. Experienced birders can use the custom quiz to help distinguish and learn similar songs.
The slideshow section can be used as a way to relax, or switch the voiceover on and see if you can say the name of the bird before the voiceover. This is a good way of competing with the family - who can say the name of the bird first?!
Includes birds from Britain, Ireland, France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Spain, Portugal and Italy.
========= Our bird song apps =========
We have been making bird song apps since the App Store started in 2008, and now have a range of bird and bird song apps for iOS devices - iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad & Apple Watch.
--------------- Chirp! ---------------
Chirp!, described above, is our original and most popular app. The first birdsong ID app, it has been in the the top selling charts every day since it was launched over seven years ago. It has changed considerably in that time as it has grown in size and features.
Chirp! is specifically designed to help you identify and learn birdsongs. However, it is also great if you just want to chill out to the sounds of nature.
----------- ChirpOMatic -----------
For automatic (shazam-style) birdsong ID, you need our ChirpOMatic app.
ChirpOMatic is our newest app. Already the top bird song ID app (in our opinion!), we are very actively developing ChirpOMatic and improving it with every update.
As simple to use as the well-known Shazam app for music, when you hear a bird singing, just point your iPhone, iPad or iPod towards the sound, and tap the button to record. After 12 seconds the recording will stop and you will be shown the top matches.
---- ChirpOMatic & Chirp! bundle ----
The 2 bird song ID apps are available as a bargain bundle. They work together - once you have the identification of a bird in ChirpOMatic, you can tap straight through to the same bird in Chirp!
---- Bird Guide Pro & Pocket Birds ----
These are our full bird guides, with photos, sounds, notes etc, plus features for recording sightings. Bird Guide Pro is our top-of-the-range app, while Pocket Birds is the budget version.
