In Country (1989)

1989 | Drama

120 mins

Directed by Academy Award-winner Norman Jewison (Moonstruck, Agnes of God), this is the portrait of one Kentucky family's struggle to heal the wounds caused by America's involvement in Vietnam, as seen through the experiences of 17-year-old teen girl (Emily Lloyd, Cookie, Wish You Were Here).

In attempting to learn more about her father, a young soldier who was killed in the war before she was born, she tries to break through to her reclusive, cynical uncle (box office superstar Bruce Willis, Pulp Fiction, the Die Hard series), a ravaged survivor of the undeclared conflict, who may well be the only person able to truly help her understand her loss.

Based on the acclaimed Bobbie Ann Mason novel, and co-starring Tony Award-winner Judith Ivey (Compromising Positions), Oscar-nominee Joan Allen (Nixon, The Crucible) and Kevin Anderson (Sleeping with the Enemy), the film culminates in a powerfully moving sequence about the experience of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C.
