Generous giving it a 3?
I'll be frankly honest and say this is not my type of film. I have a very particular sense of humour and generic mainstream comedies like this really work for me.
I didn't think much of the first one and I'm afraid this is even worse. Right from the first scene, the "funny" scenes just aren't funny and it doesn't improve as the film goes on. I'm sad to say I barely even tittered at this, let alone laugh out loud. It has a great cast but they are sorely wasted in this. Will Ferrell used to be a comedy genius, what happened? And when you think it cant get worse, they throw in the most cringeworthy singalong possible. This is the kind of film you'd put on tv for background noise and then completely ignore as it's that bad. Didnt even get me into the festive spirit!

The first Daddy's Home was hardly a comedic masterpiece. It was sub par for the most part and only really borderline enjoyable thanks to a cast that seemed enthusiastic and game to play a part in it. For the sequel, like Bad Mom's (a franchise where it's first movie was actually great) it has decided to bring in the grandparents. That didn't work out well for A Bad Mom's Christmas and it doesn't work for Daddy's Home 2 either.
There's nothing wrong with the performances in this one as such. Nobody is all that great, but they do the best they can with the material. The material however is the problem. This script is dire. It's a comedy without any jokes, a christmas movie without any heart and a family story where almost everyone is unwittingly unlikeable. I can't think of a single joke, a single moment that made me laugh and when a film contains Farrel, Wahlberg, Gibson and Lithgow- that's unforgivable.

somehow better and worse than the first?

I don't understand how this film was somehow better and worse than the first one. I liked all the dads, I thought that was great. The insecurity in themselves, I could've done without, but it was still a funny movie. Predictable like the last one, but Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell have chemistry that definitely makes up for it. I loved that they brought back John Cena, I think the story would've felt incomplete without him. The way that the story is cyclical is funny and annoying at the same time, I'm not sure how that works.
The Sully add at the end of the film was the best part, hands down. And it's only 1 of the two movies he's ever done - I bet you can guess the second.
Overall, it's a fun watch. I don't regret watching it but I probably won't watch it again.

Following the events of the first film, Brad and Dusty have to deal with their intrusive fathers, Don and Kurt during their first Together Christmas, along with Dusty's conflict with his stepchild's biological father, Roger.
Mini moan first... I'm super annoyed that the meet and greet at the airport that I kept seeing in the trailer was not how it happened in the actual movie.
I like Mark Wahlberg doing comedy, and there are a lot of good actors in this film doing some really funny work. The whole improv thing with John Lithgow was a little painful to watch, I really wish they'd found a different way to do that part of the story.
Generally though there are some good laughs, this isn't going to be one I buy, but I definitely wouldn't change the channel if it was on the TV.

I am a big Mark W. fan so these movies are right up my alley. This movie was so much fun and so funny. The grand dads make this movie even better than the first and John Cena was hilarious. This movie was a holiday movie so even though its May I was in a big time Christmas spirit watching this. Like I seriously wanted to go put my tree up lol
