2017 | Business & Finance
In recent years the countries of Southern Europe have undergone, with varying intensity, a serious and prolonged economic crisis. Many have had to resort to bailout agreements, and even the countries that have not entered into financing agreements have come under intense pressure to tackle long-term problems of fiscal sustainability, productivity, competitiveness and sustainable growth. This book will examine the structural reforms that have taken place, or have been attempted in these countries, in order to evaluate their progress and draw policy lessons from their success or failure. The contributors use their chapters to explore either different national cases of specific structural reforms, or to employ a comparative approach in order to evaluate similar reforms across countries.
