The Flickering Leaf

2017 | Fiction & Poetry

I have often been asked why I believed in God and I have always replied: 'When I was four years old we went on holiday to Blue Anchor Bay in Devon and I can never forget being mesmerised by watching the sun go down over the sea. I was filled with awe. In later years I just could not believe that it happened by accident but must have been created. Since then science has revealed more of what an extraordinary world we live in. At the same time our lives are full of tragedies and joyful days, a mix of good and evil. There is in all of us, I believe, a yearning for a lasting happiness, in the words of a chap I once knew 'a better life than this one'. Now in my old age I find myself writing poetry to my great surprise...Alec Fraser's beautiful set of poems encompass a number of universal themes, from the philosophical to the mundane.
