Overrated
Out of all of the old school horror films, Friday the 13th is probably the one I like the least. Whilst it’s a great concept being set in a camp by a lake, I think it’s rather poorly and cheesily executed. I’ve seen the original many times, but this is the first time I’ve seen any of the ‘original’ sequels and I’m afraid I didn’t think much of this either.
The main problem with this is that i found Jason to be rather disappointing. Admittedly I’ve grown up with the later version of Jason (hockey mask and machete), and whilst the machete makes an appearance, I don’t find this version of Jason very scary at all. He isn’t helped by the cheesy scenes, poor script and rather bizarre fade to white scenes. It’s a shame, as the deaths are actually rather inventive but as with all 80s horrors, they’re not nearly as gruesome as they could be. Either that or I’ve become numb to the deaths after the extreme and gory modern horrors that have been out since.
Despite all of the negatives, it is still a rather silly yet enjoyable film. Just not quite the classic it’s made out to be.

After the runaway success of the first Friday the 13th a mere year earlier, Part 2 is the first of many sequels spaffed out in a short space of time. The sequels are mostly ok, certainly watchable, with only a couple that I would say step into crappy territory.
Part 2 is one of the half decent ones, and for better or worse, I actually quietly love it.
Not too dissimilar to its predecessor, it's overflowing with over acting. This time around, the dialogue is pretty much balls awful and cheesy, but it's not enough to stop me from enjoying what is a damn fun horror sequel.
It set the stage for what slasher follow ups would become known for - more gore, more victims, more nudity, more silliness. It's just the way these things go and Friday the 13th Part 2 arguably introduced these sequel tropes to the world.
Of course, this is our first proper introduction to Jason, pre hockey mask, and I've always found Part 2 Jason to be quite intimidating. The hockey mask is undoubtedly iconic, and cemented Jason as a horror icon, but here he dons some dungarees and a potato sack over his face. There's something truly unsettling about a big dude in that get up, chasing people with a massive pick axe.
The closing moments of the movie boasts a memorable 'gotcha' moment once again, whilst showing off the decent make up and effects work, and a returning Harry Manfredini is present once again to provide a jarring music score.
Part 2 is trashy in parts but I can't help but love it. 💀

Story
Group of trainee camp councellors are about to discover that history is about to repeat itself as they are dismembered by a masked maniac can they surive.
The first of many sequels and the first to feature jason as the killer wearing a sack over his head. The kills are gory and amy steele is brillant as the lone surivor. One of the better sequels but no sign of the hockey mask yet

Sleepaway Camp 1981: Sack Jason
Its Friday the 13th- my favorite day. To celebrate my favorite day, im going to review 3 of the Friday the 13th movies, starting with this one.
Part 2- picks up right after the first one. New Camp Consulers, a grown up Jason, though he's not wearing his hockey mask, he wears a sack over his face. I like the kills in this movie. Including Marks death- machete to the face, Jeff's and Sandra's death- implaled with a spear.
The only thing i dont like about this movie, that it ends all the suddenly. Thats this movies downfall, other than that its a good movie.
The plot: The second entry in the long-running horror series focuses on a group of teenage would-be counselors converging on Camp Crystal Lake for training under the tutelage of head counselor Paul (John Furey). Inevitably, Paul relates the story of Jason Voorhees (Warrington Gillette), a boy who ostensibly drowned at the camp and whose mother murdered a group of counselors in revenge. No one takes the tale seriously until a very much alive Jason begins gruesomely eliminating people.
Happy Friday the 13th.

It's been five years since that fateful night Alice beheaded Pamela Voorhees. Unfortunately for Alice, Jason, Mrs. Voorhees son, saw everything. A camp located near Camp Crystal Lake opens up and its flooding with counselors. Everything seems to be going fine until a few of them decide to go exploring the infamous Camp Blood. From there, it's a bloodbath and Jason Voorhees is finally introduced as the killer of this franchise.
I'm one of the people who thinks the bag is scarier than the hockey mask, so I'm a pretty big fan of this one. While I was watching it this time around though, it just reminded me of The Town That Dreaded Sundown since the killer also wears a bag over his head. I think I give both films a similar rating, as well. Weird. There were a few things that crossed my mind during this viewing though. Like when everyone in camp goes to town and only a few counselors stay behind, Paul says they only have two cars. They take the two cars and drive off into town. Then when Vickie is getting ready for her evening with Mark, she runs out...to her car. These films definitely aren't without their flaws obviously, but the majority of them are still a lot of fun.
I also loved the pitchfork even though you never really got to see it used on anyone. Seeing Ralph finally get offed wasn't too shabby either. One thing that kind of left me scratching my head was the ending. Ginny gets carted off into an ambulance, but that's it. You don't see Jason's body or Paul's. Nobody is saying anything other than Ginny. Did Paul die? Did Jason get away? Did Ginny dream the whole thing? Was it Colonel Mustard with the candlestick in the dining room? Nobody knows.
