1992 | Fiction & Poetry
It has taken me a long time to get through this novel and not because I didn't enjoy it, but because I was also because I was researching it. Flagg's novel is a framed narrative. Set in a nursing home in Alabama, an elderly resident begins a conversation with a visitor which allows her to delve into her past. The inner story is of love, family, murder, racism, death - all the components of a nice wee novel. It is an easy read. Sometimes gripping but mostly nice. Worth a read if you have some free time and don't need something challenging. First published in 1987.
