This my Rifle This is My gun
This movie is one of the best look into Marine training at Paris Island. The movie is a nice look into the Vietnam war showcasing a great actor in Modine. His character is seen two ways (a killer and protector) and depending on your point of view you get to decide which one he is. The movie is suspenseful and filled with some good history. It also is a little depressing but, what war movie isn't. The best part in my opinion is that R. Lee Ermey was really a Master Sgt in the Marines so he didn't really need training to act the way he did. He frightened Modine as he said in several interviews

Nail-biting watch, extremely dark war movie
Stanley Kubrick's dark war film shows how humanity in soldiers are broken down during the Vietnam war. From a sadistic senior official to watching horrors of war, it's claustrophobic and nerve-wracking.

Iconic war film. (3 more)
Visually poetic, darkly humorous, uncompromisingly brutal!
It's very graphic, but enjoyable.
Never a dull moment in this movie.
Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket may not boast the most original of themes, but it is incredibly effective at communicating them.

"I love Full Metal Jacket because Stanley Kubrick made the most authentic boot camp film I’ve ever seen. It is so right on — my wife is appalled while she watches it and I’m sitting in the chair laughing my guts out. Kubrick was willing to take that chance [on R.Lee Ermey]. He had originally hired Ermey to be a consultant, but he realized “Wait a minute; this guy did it for eight years, who could do it better than him?” That’s what gave it full credibility because Ermey is doing exactly what he did for eight years, and that is create Marine corp recruit boot camp kids. It’s so authentic, you love it! The way the whole film breaks down, it’s one of my favorites."

"It’s a toss up between Requiem For A Dream or Full Metal Jacket. I love my war films, so I’d say the latter ‘cos it’s like two films in one! I’ve certainly felt like Private Pyle in my life. Especially in the media eye.”"

Kubrick's legendary war drama depicting a harsh view of humanity and a study of individual limits. It goes beyond the typical horrors of war films and shook our proverbial souls, like Kubrick was a master of achieving.

Hard hitting war film
One of the best war films around and possibley the best about Vietnam. It's very gritty and violent. A powerful film that sticks long in the memory.
