Eleventh Godzilla movie strikes a modishly eco-friendly note. Pollution-monster Hedorah appears in the poisoned waters off the coast of Japan and rapidly grows to become a shape-shifting toxic menace. Maybe Godzilla can help? Director Banno was kicked off the franchise after this movie was decreed to be too weird, but had the last laugh as the Japanese executive producer of the American Godzilla films. Known in the US as 'Godzilla Vs The Smog Monster'.
(Fun fact: veteran suit actor Ken Satsuma was struck down by appendicitis while making the film, and had to have a pain-killer-free appendectomy while still in the Hedorah suit due to how long it took to take the thing off.)
