In the 1960s, Veronica and Estelle Bennett were the queens of girl group pop as leaders of the Ronettes. In the 1990s, Vernie and Easther Bennett led Eternal as the new girl pop queens. An uncanny coincidence and one worth bearing in mind when looking at the classic lineage of Eternal's fully-formed work. Their career was quite short, but they burned brightly all the way, leaving no room for mistakes or fillers. This greatest hits, then, is the very best of the best. They swing, they smooch and they seduce through a body of work that is made for the chart parade. Soulful solidarity and sisterhood is their gospel and no-nonsense pop grooves their playground. The feel-good factor runs high in Eternal and these stone-cold classics are made to last for eternity. It's lightweight commercial music with that added special dimension that makes these songs last the distance. --Ben Clancy
