Horror movie from Val Lewton's time as head of RKO's horror unit. A Canadian nurse travels to a remote Caribbean island to care for her employer's wife, who has been left unable to speak and with no will of her own by a mysterious infliction. There are tensions in the family and the voodoo drums just won't stop, out on the plantation... (Partly based on the plot of Jane Eyre, believe it or not.)
