Having spent a lifetime officiating at Circuit of Ireland and Ulster Automobile Club events, Rodney McComb has visited most of the wilder parts of this island, learning to love the out-of-the-way places and the characters he has met along the way. Here he shares his story and those of others, guiding us through the most famous of the Special Stages in Irish rallying. In this corner of Europe the existence of Road Closing Orders is unique to Ireland (and the Isle of Man) and this has created a very distinct style of rallying.Forestry roads, vehicle proving tracks and stately homes form the basis for most Special Stage events outside Ireland. Only here have the roads, normally only open to the public, be driven by the worlds top rally drivers and teams.Rodney has collated a multitude of anecdotes and stories covering more than 50 years from those who drove, navigated, marshalled and spectated across the whole of Ireland in this sport of joy and danger. All this amongst the most spectacular scenery Europe has to offer, illustrated by the fabulous photographs of Esler Crawford.
