Known to music fans around the world as the “King of the Boogie,” John Lee Hooker endures as one of the true superstars of the blues genre. His work is widely recognized for its impact on modern music – his simple, yet deeply effective songs transcend borders and languages around the globe. Each decade of Hooker’s long career brought a new generation of fans and fresh opportunities for the ever-evolving artist, and he regularly toured and recorded up until his passing in 2001.
John Lee Hooker would have been 100 years old on August 22nd, 2017. To celebrate his centennial, a handful of high-profile events have been planned to honor the legendary Bluesman, including King Of The Boogie-themed exhibitions at the GRAMMY Museum and Blues Foundation. This special box set from Craft Recordings will celebrate the music of John Lee Hooker in true style. 100 songs on five CDs span the artist’s career, covering not only his iconic hits, but also diving deep into his catalog for rare tracks, live recordings and previously unreleased material. Presented in a book format, the collection includes 56-pages of rare photos and new liner notes by writer and John Lee Hooker historian Jas Obrecht, as well as by Hooker’s longtime manager Mike Kappus.
