Konga (1961)

1961 | Horror | Sci-Fi

90 mins United Kingdom United States

Anglo-American horror/sci-movie. A scientist returns from a year lost in the African jungle with a baby chimp and a plan to use carnivorous plants to create giant animal-vegetable hybrids. No-one notices he has clearly gone as mad as a stoat and he embarks on a reign of terror after using his new serum to transform Konga the baby chimp into a man in a gorilla suit. Eventually Konga ends up giant-sized and goes off on a rampage around London. (Not quite as brazen a rip-off as it looks: the producers paid $25,000 to RKO for the rights to the Kong name.)
