2014 | Biography
His Honour Charles Bloom QC retired in 2012 after a career in law spanning fifty years. In this book he tells of a journey from a small terraced house in a working class area of Manchester to his life at the Bar and finally as a Circuit Judge sitting on the Bench. Commencing in the war years and in a society in which racism and class discrimination were sometimes a feature, he recounts his journey through junior and high school, University, Bar School and as a pupil barrister, into a world which was totally alien to his background and upbringing. The journey was at times challenging, demanding and rocky, but also exciting, uplifting and rewarding. It was one which in his wildest youthful dreams he would never have anticipated. With remarkable candour and humour he relates stories and anecdotes from both the Bar and the Bench, offering an exceptional opportunity to discover what goes on in the barrister's chambers and behind the judge's court door. You will encounter some of his celebrated and eminent colleagues at both work and at play.
Life in Bloom offers not just a unique insight into social history but also rare glimpses of the legal world which are both revelatory and hugely entertaining. All proceeds from the sale of this book will go to charity.
