Co-produced by respective Grammy nominee and winner - Ivis Flies & Ivan Benavides – Rio Mira are a Marimba supergroup formed of Afro-Pacific binational heritage and consisting of some of the most in-demand and respected musicians from Colombia and Ecuador - their music is the sonic rejoining of a historically, ecologically, and culturally connected region – 'El Pacifico Sur' - that has been divided by the state-borders of Ecuador and Colombia. Across this area, people share styles of music, food, speech, fashion, and social formation, and it's no coincidence that the band derive their name from the River Mira (Rio Mira) that flows across these borders - connecting not dividing people and culture. It is in this area where both Ecuador and Colombia host their most densely populated area of people of African descent and here where the rhythms of Africa have entwined with the lilt and grooves of Colombia and Ecuador, and Marimba music has become firmly established - a sound so sacred it was added to UNESCO's 'Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity' in 2015. 'Marimba Del Pacifico' is a beguiling showcase of this protected sound - a celebration of a unique cultural heritage to be found nowhere else from a band of young musicians keeping this strong tradition alive.
