Rachel Brosnahan (House of Cards) stars as Miriam 'Midge' Maisel, a Jewish housewife in 1958 New York City. Miriam's seemingly-perfect life takes a sudden, unexpected turn, when her struggling comedian husband Joel reveals he's been having an affair and leaves her. After her family criticises her, Midge drunkenly delivers an impromptu set at the comedy club where her talentless husband performs stand-up, and discovers an unknown talent.
Teaming up with adoring comedy club employee Susie (Alex Borstein), Midge charts a course going from her comfortable life on Riverside Drive, through the basket houses and nightclubs of Greenwich Village as she takes the world of stand-up by storm.
