Marina Hess (Pineda) is finally being released from the psychiatric facility that she has lived in for fifteen years. In her youth, she and her friend Rebecca lured a younger girl named Alice into the woods and stabbed her multiple times in an offering to a supernatural entity, Mercy Black. Marina has come to terms with her illness and accepts that her actions weren't her fault; she had been manipulated and her schizophrenia had been exploited, but when she returns home, Mercy Black begins to reappear and Marina must confront the past she has repressed for so long.
