The Japanese, allied to Germany, intern the entire Jewish community, the only non-Europeans so treated. Away from his father for the first time and seeing so much unjustifiable misery Adam seeks other mentors.When his father dies his ghost stays with Adam and sets the pattern of his life and love. Unable to shake off his nurturing to remain separate within a fusion of diverse people, he stitches together a few stories to see if he can discover what went wrong with his life.
