Pfalz - Fighter Aircraft from Rheinland the Wine Country

2013 | History & Politics

Fighters made in a Bavarian GmbH Flugzeugwerke factory were the third most common type of fighter aircraft used by the Imperial Army Air Service (Luftstreitkrafte). Although having elegant lines, they turned out to be inferior not only to Albatros D.V and D.Va or Fokker D.VII but also to most allied fighters sent into action in 1917. They were just a workhorse of the Luftstreitkrafte fulfilling the permanent shortage of combat-ready fighters. They were definitely a deadly weapon in the hands of experienced German and Bavarian Jastas pilots.
