Portrait of a Lady on Fire tells the story of Marianne, a painter who has been charged by a Countess to paint a portrait of her daughter, Heloise, so that she can be married. There is one complication: Heloise cannot know that Marianne is attempting to paint her because it is an arranged marriage that Heloise does not approve of. Marianne poses as someone for the lady to walk with, and as time goes by, the two become closer until the inevitable completion of the portrait means the ultimate end of the bond they have developed.
