Rijksmuseum
The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam has many of the world’s finest masterpieces and tells the most exciting stories. Over 8,000 treasures are displayed across 80 exhibition rooms, telling the tale of 800 years of art and history. A journey through time, spanning 1.5 kilometres, runs from the Middle Ages to the present day. Guided by this official Rijksmuseum multimedia tour, you can browse through the Rijksmuseum in any particular order, getting to know the artworks at your leisure. Or opt to follow one of the carefully selected tours of a selection of the museum’s highlights.
The app is specially developed for use in the museum itself.
See More & Learn More
The Rijksmuseum app has a simple principle: See More and Learn More. The app works as a magic window, revealing remarkable stories and surprising details about the Rijksmuseum's collection as well as its architecture. Experts share their personal perspective on the Rijksmuseum objects.
Family Quest
The Rijksmuseum app includes a special Family Quest, which is a unique item within the app. This game can be played by a minimum of two and maximum of four players, each on their own smartphone.
The Family Quest takes families on a tour past eight objects in the museum, and at each one they are challenged to unravel its secret. The participants receive different kinds of tasks: sometimes an individual task on their own device, and sometimes group tasks on one of the devices. When all eight secrets have been revealed, there is a secret surprise ending. The Family Quest is suitable for adults and children from 6 to 12 years.
Special features
The Rijksmuseum app includes 3D-audio compositions. The soundscapes sweep you along in the atmosphere of each tour.
You can easily save your favorites by clicking in the heart in the corner of the work of art that you like. You can find them afterwards in your own Rijksstudio on the website of the Rijksmuseum (www.rijksmuseum.nl). With your Rijksstudio you can collect artworks, order a reproduction of the artwork, or download an image so you make something yourself.
Practical
The Rijksmuseum app also contains practical visitor's information, and schedule of the current activities in the Rijksmuseum.
How does it work
You can download the app before you even set foot in the Rijksmuseum and browse through the tour to prepare your visit. You can also download the app on arrival, using the free wifi network at the Rijksmuseum. It is recommended to bring your own headphones, to enjoy the full 3D audio experience. You can also purchase headphones in the museum for €1.50.
