Roger Sauvage: Un Du Normandie-Niemen

2017 | Biography

One of the Aces of Normandy-Niemen with sixteen confirmed wins, Roger Sauvage published the account of his experience in the French-Russian fighter unit shortly after his return to France, which became mythical in the history of aviation. Relating the life of the "Neu-Neu" as closely as possible, from the fighting to the daily life of pilots and mechanics, Un du Normandie-Niemen was met with great success as soon as it was released and was subsequently reissued several times. Now out of print, this book, which is as alive as it is instructive, is still sought after by aviation enthusiasts. This new large-scale book containins the entirety of the original text and enriched with historical insights, it enables a better understanding of Sauvage's work. Also, thanks to the family of Roger Sauvage, a large number of photographs are included, many of which were taken by the aviator himself on the Russian front. Also included are the caricatures of Pierre Dechanet, draftsman of the group and friend of Roger Sauvage. This is the first time that these drawings, relating the daily life of the "Neu-Neu" with details and humor, will be presented in their entirety. Text in French.
