Coup Halloran's fight against the evil forces of imperialism in The Shardy Shamrock is a commentary on the Irish question but so much more than that. It is an exotic journey through other parts of the world and different time zones, all mixed together with a very liberal dose of comedy. The Shardy Shamrock is a magical mystery tour, fusing different locations, genres, fantasy and a good dose of social commentary. Perhaps the outcome is always known but the path is convoluted and you are never quite sure where Coup Halloran will take you next. The Shardy Shamrock is a traditional tale of goodies and baddies but the reader is taken on a vivid and imaginative journey that will keep the pages turning until the final conclusion, a "feel good" story but one that is rich in characterisation and pacey until the end.
