This is Urian's book (finally). Damn, this guy has been through too much. As usual, the author takes everything we thought we knew about a character and completely destroys it, but in the beat way. Although readers familiar with the Dark Hunter series have followed Urian through many adventures, this book allows us to finally see things from his perspective and explains much of his attitude and actions.
There were alot of negative reviews accusing Kenyon of sticking pages from previous books into this one just to add more pages. While she did do that, it's not for that reason IMHO. Seriously, how could she have prevented it? It's not like Urian hasn't been involved in the series darn near this whole time. Of course there would be repetition! The difference is now we see how events affected Urian, and most of them were negative. Seriously, the guy goes through an eons of crap before finally getting his HEA, and even still they open up a new can of worms.
There were also a few critiques about how Kenyon handled the resurrection of Urian's supposedly dead wife Phoebe, but that's because we never actually knew her. She was a brat, just like her sister. Now she's an undead brat. Personally, she could've stayed dead, but I get why Kenyon had to resurrect her. Honestly, everyone should have known that she was wrong for him, because all of Kenyon's females are strong, kickass women (I love that) and Phoebe wasn't. So build a bridge and get over it.
If you haven't read the series yet, I highly recommend it, but you have to start at the beginning. She did not write these as standalones. But the characters are so richly developed and their stories are full of strength, cruelty, pain, love, and tragedy...I mean, you get INVESTED. Start with Phantom Lover and keep going. It's gonna be a great ride.
