Taking in what would have been the first route travelled, Rye to Portsmouth in 1841, a number of secondary routes, locomotive sheds and the works in Brighton, these fascinating photographs offer a nostalgic look back to a time when steam was king. Packed with scenic shots ranging from the days of the LB&SCR to the final days of steam, many shots feature aspects of the local landscape now lost to history, such as signal boxes and forgotten station nameplates, as well as scenes that endure to this day, such as the white cliffs at Lewes.
