In the year 2022, the ultimate Virtual Reality Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game debuts. Allowing players to take full advantage of the ultimate in gaming technology, the Nerve Gear which allows players to totally immerse the in the most realistic gaming experience ever. When the game goes live, players begin to realise that one of the most basic functions is not available: They aren't able to log out. Being trapped in the virtual world of Aincrad, whilst their bodies are being held captive by the Nerve Gear in the real world they are given a chilling ultimatum. They must conquer all hundred floors of Aincrad to be able to escape. However, Game Over in the virtual world also means Game Over in the real world.
