Terra Sangue Mare’s eponymous first album is the result of the trio’s exploration of Sicilian Folk and Roots Music and their experimentation with sounds inherent in world music traditions. Michela Musolino, Michael Delia and Fabio Turchetti together experimented with the tones and textures produced by instruments, both those traditionally associated with Sicilian folk music such as the tamburo and accordion, and those identified with different world traditions such as the mbira from Zimbabwe, the ektara from India and the Argentine bandoneon. Just as Sicily is a unique culture born of an integration of cultures and peoples, Terra Sangue Mare’s unique sound evolved from the integration of these folk songs with the sounds unique to these instruments to create new arrangements, coupled with voice, which express all the intensity, reminiscences, and feelings inherent in this tradition.
