A blue parakeet is something unexpected that disrupts the narrative. This book is a blue parakeet. Is it about hermeneutics? Women in ministry? It's not clear what exactly it's about and that's disrupting to my desire for a book which is clearly about something that I can describe.
McKnight is an amazing thinker whose books are among my favorites. This one just didn't hit with me.
