Dystopian allegory by R.C. Sherriff, writer of Journey's End and The Dam Busters, amongst others. The book is presented as a translation of an ancient manuscript, one of the few documents to be found in the ruins of Europe, and comprises an account of a global catastrophe which struck the world in the 1940s (the book was published in 1939), written by an ordinary Englishman.
