Costume drama about life in early 20th century America. Social changes are seen through the eyes of the wealthy Amberson family. Welles had conceded his right to final cut of the film and the existing version is considerably shorter than his own preferred cut. The dispute over the editing was a major factor in Welles spending most of his career working outside Hollywood.
