2007 | Dystopia | Young Adult (YA)
Dystopian coming of age story set in the United States not too far into the future, just after the Second Civil War. The war revolved around the issue of abortion and a compromise was reached. Between the ages of 13 and 18 a parent or custodial guardian can chose to send you to a Harvest camp to be unwound; taken apart and all your parts given to those in need. Too many orphans? Problem kids that lash out, won't listen, won't learn? Problem solved. In fact, some people have a child just to tithe to their church. These children are raised to believe they are special, fulfilling a holy destiny, chosen. Unwind follows 3 characters who are on their way to a Harvest camp; an angry young man, an orphan musician, and a chosen. When the resistance movement frees them, where will they go? Will they choose to live or be unwound?
