Based on the series Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. Rose Hathaway, the protagonist is a Dhampir. A Dhampir is half vampire, half human. They have better senses than humans but not as good as their Moroi counterparts or the the vampires they protect the Moroi from, the Strigoi. They're strong, fast, and resilient. The Moroi can control elemental magics; fire, water, air, earth, and on the rare occasion spirit. They're weaker in the sun though it will not kill them and they aren't as fast or strong or resilient as the Dhampir. They need blood to survive but do not kill to get blood. The Strigoi are the evil blood sucking version of Moroi. They can not control elemental magics, and the sun will kill them. They kill for blood, and the only ways to kill them is to a. Stake them with a silver magic charged stake, b. Decapitate them, or c. Burn them. They're faster and stronger, and surprisingly; smart. They're also ruthless and would do anything for what they want. Any species; human, Dhampir, or Moroi can become a Strigoi. Humans and Dhampir only through being turned by a Strigoi, and a Moroi through the same way as well as by choice. If a Moroi chooses, he or she can drain a blood doner and become Strigoi. When that happens, it is for one of two reasons, power or escape.
