Late-period Hammer horror movie, released on a double-bill with Countess Dracula. When the townsfolk of Stitl rid themselves of their vampire overlord Count Mitterhaus, they do not suspect his followers are planning his resurrection and revenge (although it takes them fifteen years, for some reason). Sure enough, a strange circus eventually rolls into town in the middle of an outbreak of plague, with no-one suspecting the circus performers are (spoiler alert) vampires.
Screenwriter George Baxt claims he was paid £1000 just for coming up with the title. Debut film from director Robert Young, whose inexperience meant that the production overran by a week; the producers had the film shut down and ordered the editor to do the best he could with the footage completed so far - this may explain some of the film's stylistic and narrative quirkiness.
