Better Than Okay
This book was an aesthetic in itself. A painting. Sad, simple and so, so beautiful. I loved it a lot. Its complexity was simplified, made easier to understand. You fall in love with the characters, and you can't fall out of love with them again. Marin and Mabel's relationship was so gorgeous- and very elegantly, very casually done. I think this book was beautiful, and so damn elegant. Marin's recovery isn't obvious, and it isn't a huge recovery, but it's certainly amazing. All in all, this book was great, sweet, simple, and oh-so-gorgeous.

Uplifting
Marin is lonely, she’s drowning in it. Her friend (maybe more) Mabel tries to save her from her loneliness. As the story goes alone we piece together a past Marin was unable to face. It was really interesting how inactive the actual sequence of events were, but it remained engaging through sporadically having flashbacks to Marin’s past.
Lovely story, kinda gay, depression and anxiety present and discussed.

This book will make you unable to breathe. This book will make you ache.
It's such a simple story; but Nina LaCour's writing took me somewhere that so few stories have.
The entire time I read this, I was filled with this overwhelming sense of serenity, yet ached with despair. What a contradiction! But isn't that life? At least some of the time. Captured perfectly.
With every page I turned, I saddened. Due entirely to the progression of the story. With every secret brought to light. With the knowledge that every page I turned brought me closer to the end.
The only thing I found myself not absolutely loving was the ending. Not because it ended, as I thought would be the case whilst reading, but with how it ended. It wasn't bad, quite the opposite. I just wish it were different.
If you have the chance to read We Are Okay, do it. You won't be sorry.
