Weather4D 2.0

Weather | Navigation

iOS

Weather4D 2.0 is a powerful application for maritime chart navigation and weather routing.

Navigation:

Weather4D 2.0 helps prepare and track navigation on a wide range of official marine charts issued from many countries hydrographic services.
The user can save waypoints, simulate routes, associate routes with weather forecasts GRIB models in order to optimize with the routing process, compare depending on the selected options. .
In navigation mode, instruments labels display the real-time progress information and can receive data from the external Wi-Fi devices onboard.

AIS targets are displayed with special icons for Class A and B, for the AtoN and basic stations.
You can also program audible and visual alarms (notifications).

Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

Weather:

Weather4D 2.0 is based on global weather forecasts in GRIB format. Many meteorological and oceanographic forecasting models are available, downloads and requests are fully customizable.
The application allows to create custom worldwide areas and select the desired features in GRIB files to download: data selection, resolution, timespan, file size, aso.
Weather4D 2.0 displays the combined data overlayed with multiple layers, and allows to finely set display mode and quality of each data. The data ser in a selected model is displayed as an animation in continuous time scrolling or manual time scrolling on the map or chart.
Navigation and weather forecasts can be displayed in a single or dual screen (iPad only), providing multiple display combinations of the same area: navigation and weather, weather forecasts and waves forecast or currents, comparison of different models. The two screens can be dissociated for a display of the same area at different scales.

Routing:

The Weather4D 2.0 routing module helps to optimize routes for sailing or motor boating, or sail and motor mixed. From a theoretical route, motor routing will take account of wind strength constraints and wave heights for optimal comfort and safety. For sailing routing, a speed polar combined with wind and currents forecasts will be used for optimizing performance, comfort and safety.
Several routes can be displayed to compare the results of different options: different forecasting models, dates and times start, specified values constraint.
Routing can be refreshed at any time during navigation from the actual position of the boat.

Basic version:

Weather4D 2.0 comes standard with the free GFS 0.25°/0,5°/1° global forecasts model and two world maps, Satellite (BING) and Plan (OSM).

Options:

The weather forecasts models: NAM, COAMPS, WRF (USA), GEM (Canada), AROME and ARPEGE (France) and WW3 wave models and MERCATOR OCEAN currents models, are provided in a single pack available by annual subscription (in-app purchase).

Nautical Charts:

The official raster charts from the International Hydrographic Services to get from the chart server Geogarage which offers a wide selection and keeps continuously updated.
