2014 | Sport & Leisure
This book is aimed at wire jewellery artists yearning to expand their skills in metalwork but without the desire to set up a full metalsmithing studio. All metalwork in Wire + Metal can be done with basic tool many wire-workers are already familiar with, plus a few new ones. Incorporating prefab metal blanks, blanks punched from sheet metal, and sheet metal cut with shears, everything will be fabricated with easy-to-do techniques that can be done right at the kitchen table. Wire work includes lashing, stitching, simple weaving, coils, spirals, twisted wire, and incorporating beads with wire. Then metal pieces are hole-punched, dapped, hammered, textured with stamps and tools, colorised, and patinated. Denise and Jane show how inexpensive, readily available, and easily mastered tools can produce results similar to much more complex metalsmithing techniques.
