Cheesy 80's vibe (1 more)
Quite funny
A fun Horror Comedy
Well this Netflix original has been on my list for a while so I gave it a whirl. It's a tongue firmly in cheek horror comedy with a fair amount of gore. A young nerdy kid finds out his hot babysitter has evil plans for him.
The cast was quite cool and fun. You sense they enjoyed filming this. It is quite funny in an cheesy way, with a slight 80's horror vibe to it. Almost a horror version of Home alone. If you want a horror comedy that is quite funny check it out.

I am not quite sure how to go about this review. On one hand, the world was so intricate and detailed that, at time, I felt lost. There is a lot going on, and if you blink, you too will become lost. If you take the time to actually read and take in each word, you are rewarded with a rich world as well as mythology. Sometimes, the detailed flowery prose can be too much, and sometimes its just right.
Its hard explain this novel without giving anything away. If the description sounds like something that would interest you, then I suggest you try it out.

Chris Hooker (419 KP) rated The Last Time I Saw Her in Books

This book was well written. I had to keep in mind the time periods it was set in while reading it due tothe labels used. I think it accurately portrayed what being a lesbian in the 1980's was like. The interaction between the characters seemed forced but again I believe this was done intentionally to add to the overall mood. I think there were quite a few sterotypes in this book and that was a bit off putting but as I said in the 1980's some people were fitting those just to fit in. Overall it was a well written and edited book.

First off, I always try to finish what I start, but this book just wasn't worth it. I only got 3/4 of the way through. <s>The LotR fanfiction I found was much more interesting.</s>
Anyways, this book has lots of flaws: Main character is too Mary-Sue-ish and whiny, one of the characters keeps spouting astrology BS every single chapter, too many cliches, and the author does not seem to understand that fey are more than just pixies.
Now, if you want a GOOD book involving fey that takes place in the modern-day, try The Iron King by Julie Kagawa, not this one.
