Another whet-the-appetite short story, linked to [a: James Rollins|38809|James Rollins|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1328147798p2/38809.jpg] Sigma Force series, this one is set between the events of [b: The Devil Colony|7202829|The Devil Colony (Sigma Force, #7)|James Rollins|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1264522557s/7202829.jpg|7897971] and [b: Bloodline|8709527|Bloodlines (Bloodlines, #1)|Richelle Mead|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1297199431s/8709527.jpg|13582374].

Rather than focusing on any of the previous 'main' characters of the series (by which I also include Seichan!), this instead introduces two new character who will become important in the next (the afore-mentioned [b: Bloodline|8709527|Bloodlines (Bloodlines, #1)|Richelle Mead|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1297199431s/8709527.jpg|13582374]) of Tucker and Kane.

Like [b: The Skeleton Key|103983|Skeleton Key (Alex Rider, #3)|Anthony Horowitz|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1306076661s/103983.jpg|1443938], this is an extremely fast read, with the bulk of the length given over to an excerpt from the next in the series. However, and unlike that previous mentioned story, there is even (I felt) a teeny-tiny bit of character development in this one!

Final part of [a:Chuck Wendig|17152|Chuck Wendig|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1294919586p2/17152.jpg]'s Aftermath trilogy of novel (starting with [b:Aftermath|25131600|Aftermath (Star Wars Aftermath, #1)|Chuck Wendig|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1426620007s/25131600.jpg|44828548] and continuing with [b:Aftermath: Life Debt|26895161|Aftermath Life Debt (Star Wars Aftermath, #2)|Chuck Wendig|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1449268300s/26895161.jpg|47250982] before finishing with this) that kicked off Disney's 'new' Extended Universe Star Wars novels, this also fixes many of the problem with the earlier entries - [b:Aftermath|25131600|Aftermath (Star Wars Aftermath, #1)|Chuck Wendig|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1426620007s/25131600.jpg|44828548], in particular, just did not do it for me.

[b:Aftermath: Life Debt|26895161|Aftermath Life Debt (Star Wars Aftermath, #2)|Chuck Wendig|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1449268300s/26895161.jpg|47250982] was better, but not brilliant: this, I felt, was better again.

All three novels are set during the period between the end of 'Return of the Jedi' and the start of 'The Force Awakens', taking in many of the key characters from the original films and furhter expanding their universe and personalities - in particular, Mon Mothma has a larger role to play in this than ever before.

The trilogy also introduces a new set of characters, and even manages to make the Battle Droids from the prequel trilogy seem dangerous once more.

For my money, however (and I hate to say this), it's still not a patch on [a:Timothy Zahn|12479|Timothy Zahn|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1215545810p2/12479.jpg]'s [b:Heir to the Empire|216443|Heir to the Empire (Star Wars The Thrawn Trilogy #1)|Timothy Zahn|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1398253847s/216443.jpg|1133995] trilogy (sorry).

This is placed at 1.5 but I think it's more of a 0.5 or a 0.1 position in this series since its events take place before [b:Storm|28580871|Storm (Elemental, #1)|Brigid Kemmerer|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1452964954s/28580871.jpg|15305022] and probably after [b:Elemental|13418864|Elemental (Elemental, #0.5)|Brigid Kemmerer|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1387754610s/13418864.jpg|18769953]. It's a little complicated I guess.

I didn't enjoy this half as much as [b:Storm|28580871|Storm (Elemental, #1)|Brigid Kemmerer|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1452964954s/28580871.jpg|15305022], which I read before this. Both have been on my Kindle for six years so it was about time I read them but this one didn't grab me. I found it rather boring and kinda wanted to punch Hunter's dad in the face a few times.

I'd still love to read the rest of the brothers stories though

This is reminding me a lot of [b:アオハライド Ao Haru Ride 1|13571757|アオハライド Ao Haru Ride 1 (Blue Spring Ride, #1)|Io Sakisaka|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1333286264s/13571757.jpg|19152133] in the will they, wont they/please get together already! way. I love it, but it's also driving me mad! They were so close to kissing at the end of this and then he has to be an arse...

Off to start Volume 5!

The final part of [a:Stephen Aryan|10372063|Stephen Aryan|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1435501696p2/10372063.jpg]'s 'Age of Darkness' trilogy (that also consists of [b:Battlemage|24396857|Battlemage (The Age of Darkness Trilogy, #1)|Stephen Aryan|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1434726211s/24396857.jpg|43981438] and [b:Bloodmage|26030693|Bloodmage (The Age of Darkness Trilogy #2)|Stephen Aryan|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1454627052s/26030693.jpg|46819958]), with this one having more-than-a-hint of 'The Walking Dead' about it, primarily set (as it is) in a compound in an eerily abandoned and destroyed city (after the war covered in [b:Battlemage|24396857|Battlemage (The Age of Darkness Trilogy, #1)|Stephen Aryan|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1434726211s/24396857.jpg|43981438]) that is under siege by - more or less - zombies.

OK, maybe not zombies in the classicly - or comtemporarily (is that a word?) - understood sense, but that's more or less what 'The Forsaken' (as they are called) come across as.

This novel also sees the return of the Battlemage Balfruss - who seems to be modelled after [a:David Gemmell|11586|David Gemmell|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1202771023p2/11586.jpg]'s character of Druss, if Druss could use magic - with it taking more or less chapter about to move between his point of view and the other key characters.

All-inan-all a solid ending to the trilogy, that leaves the door open for further tales to be told in this world.

This is my second manga by this author and I really liked the other [b:?????? 1 Ao Haru Ride 1 |13571757|?????? 1 Ao Haru Ride 1 (Blue Spring Ride, #1)|Io Sakisaka|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1333286264s/13571757.jpg|19152133].

One thing I have noticed is that the guy looks eerily similar to the guy from the other one. In fact, that something I've noticed having read a handful of different ones--a lot of the characters kinda look the same.

Anyway, I'm intrigued by this one. I want them to get together already but as always there are several obstacles in the way. Off to start Volume 2.

I read it, but - GAH! I feel like I need to go back and read [b:The Hidden City|1385783|The Hidden City (The House War, #1)|Michelle Sagara West|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1266788937s/1385783.jpg|1375829], then read it again, to be sure I got everything. I think I'll wait until [b:House Name|6121287|House Name (The House War, #3)|Michelle Sagara West|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1279636477s/6121287.jpg|6299563] comes out, then read all three of them together. At that point, I'll probably be ready for a re-read of [b:The Sun Sword|153223|The Sun Sword (The Sun Sword, #6)|Michelle Sagara West|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1266483918s/153223.jpg|147905] (really, the whole series) again. But of course, to do them justice, I should go back and read the Hunter duology, too. This is the problem with [a:Michelle Sagara West|6256|Michelle Sagara West|http://www.goodreads.com/images/nophoto/nophoto-F-50x66.jpg]! Her world is SO rich that it's difficult to find a good beginning place. But very well worth it, I promise!
