1960s Cold War submarine based thriller, based on the novel by Scottish author Alistair MacLean, with this movie - I have heard - being so beloved of Howard Hughes that it aired on a Las Vega station he owned over 100 times during his lifetime.
The plot? Basically, a satellite containing stolen equipment has crashed in the arctic. The race is on to retrieve said equipment.
But who can be trusted?

Conspiracy thriller. In the early 1960s, war hero Raymond Shaw is feted across America for saving his comrades during the war in Korea - but those comrades are troubled by strange nightmares suggesting something completely different may have happened. Shaw has been conditioned by the Communists to become the perfect assassin, something not even he is aware of, and his new operators are about to send him into action...
Sounds a bit like a Red Scare movie, but surprisingly apolitical: the main villain seems to be more fascist than communist, and even the Russian characters appear to have corrupted by American consumerism. Instead, the focus is more on character, and the damage done to people by their experiences in wartime. An intelligent and cynical movie, well-played for the most part, and with an astonishingly good turn from Angela Lansbury. Inevitably linked in the culture to the assassinations of the Kennedy brothers in the 1960s, but still feels remarkably un-dated.

For fans of the Morse franchise, a lovely complement
I must admit I teared up a little bit when young Morse looked at himself in the rear view mirror and saw old Morse looking back at him. It's lovely to see the background to one of our beloved TV characters, to see the story start to build. The attention to 1960s detail is very good, and most of the acting is excellent.

I found this book at on a bench at a park and could not put it down.
The Rum Diary is an early novel by Hunter S. Thompson. It was written in the early 1960s but was not published until 1998.
In this tale you will read about drinking rum, eating burgers, some journalism, rum, the twisted minds of people, rum and more rum while following a American journalist working at a paper in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Never give up, never surrender!
The best not Star Trek Star Trek film, where the washed up stars of an old TV show (the Galaxy Quest of the title) - think 1960s Star Trek - are mistaken for the real thing by actual aliens, and brought aboard their space ship (modelled after that from the TV show), in order to negotiate a ceasefire against their foe.
Worth watching for Alan Rickman's Dr Lazarus alone, never mind Sigourney Weaver or Tim Allen...

Amazon Prime's adaptation of the Fallout games, although - having never played any of those games - I cannot say how close (or otherwise) it sticks to the source material.
It's primarily post apocalyptic set, a kind of retro future in that it starts in an alternate 1960s and then jumps on 200 odd years, with Ella Purnell the main lead of the story as she ventures aboveground from Vault 33 for the first time in her life in search of her kidnapped father.
Of course, things are not always as they seem ...

Disappointing, writing from an elitist bubble
This was rather disappointing. While Joan Didion is obviously a good writer, she is too much of a cynic and writes from the perspective of upper class privilege. She has more enthusiasm for high end elitist social circles than the civil rights movements taking place in 1960s, even criticising Nobel Prize winner of Literature, Doris Lessing. She prefers the company of Charles Manson associates than she does of leading feminists and Black Panther leaders. It sounded like a long winded rant about her own troubles than the troubles of the time.
