I remember being completely enthralled by this novel when I was in middle school. I read it in 1998, when it was first published in the USA, and I thought I was the coolest kid in school for being the first one to check it out of the school library. The first chapter had me hooked on the series.

Peter G. (247 KP) rated American History X (1998) in Movies

Powerful and poinient study of hate and racism with a redemptive role for Ed Norton who put himself through rigorous physical training to play the role of violent neo-nazi Derek Vinyard.
Norton plays the role with quite a frightening realism and tone and his journey to redemption is a very rough readjustment.
His brother who idolises him cannot quite understand the transition..still a very relevant movie today as it was in 1998.

It is great to see Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall back together again but they just don’t seem to have the same rapport as they did in the 1998 movie, Coming 2 America is funny in parts, but I just didn’t have the same belly laughs I had and still have when watching Coming to America, if you have Amazon Prime then check it out, it won’t cost you any extra.
