However, in the world of Ultra-Orthodox Jews, that's how life is. When Delfina was seven, her father killed her mother. So she grew up with her grandparents. Questions about her mother and the murder haunted Delfina through into adulthood, and her large Polish family could do nothing to answer them. This story about passion and disappointment was lovingly rendered, and evocative. You can read my full review here. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2014/04/04/on-passion-and-disappointment/

A murder in New York is nothing new, but when it happens among the ultra-orthodox Jews of Borough Park, that's another thing altogether. Rebekah Roberts finds herself investigating the story for the paper, while facing a part of her past she knows nothing about. The next to last collection of comic strips from Calvin and Hobbes features the nine month break creator Bill Watterson took. There aren't as many stories, although the familiar themes are still present. And the laughs for fans new and old are just as strong as they were 20 years ago.

The actress talks about her life in and out of show business. As a fan, I enjoyed it, although a couple of chapters went further than I needed them to go. Still, she comes across as fairly grounded and nice by the time you've reached the end.

Malcolm Poe has been planning most of his life to get away from it all and begin living, but nothing ever goes as planned. In his finest work to date, Burnett once again brings us a complex character we can both love and hate in Malcolm Poe. I’ve always believed that you should read the book before it becomes a movie, and I couldn’t be more insistent in the case of “The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.” If you read my recently revised review of this book on my blog here, you might understand why I’m avoiding seeing it, at least for now. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2014/08/01/an-occupied-island-and-unusual-occupations/
