The Chocolate Lady (94 KP) rated Little Nothing in Books
Oct 5, 2020
Marisa Silver (author of Mary Coin) brings us a story that blends fantasy with reality to create a hybrid fable of the weird and the wonderful, of loss and of love and so much more. Find out why this gets a full five stars in my review of this book here https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2016/08/14/a-fantastical-fable/
GameCritics (290 KP) rated The Witness in Video Games

Solve enough puzzles in each area and you’ll get confirmation that you’re closer to the end, a climax that brings together everything you’ve learned. Those disappointed by a reward of further tasks ought to look at other video games

Erika (17788 KP) rated Hell or High Water (2016) in Movies
Nov 16, 2017
This was my favorite film from 2016. Chris Pine and Ben Foster did an amazing job with their characters. This movie depicted West Texas very well, it wasn't filmed in Texas, but Eastern NM and West TX look exactly the same. One of the only things I didn't like was Jeff Bridges, who was acting like Jeff Bridges; exactly the same in nearly every movie recently.

This is a subject matter that is any parents worst nightmare; their 3 year old child goes missing but, in The Darkest Secret, that is only the beginning of the story and when money and reputations are at stake, it becomes something even more sinister.

BookCritics (259 KP) rated Final Girls in Books
Jun 6, 2017
Brilliant from start to finish. A fast paced easy to read book that I had to read in one go to find out what happened. Lisa, Qunicy and Samantha are all sole survivors of separate massacres and that is why they are called the final girls.

Movie Critics (823 KP) rated 47 Meters Down (2017) in Movies

Unneeded twist aside, this is a very tense and thoroughly enjoyable movie, and some people will no doubt enjoy the twist, so if you fancy sitting through one of my worst nightmares, then give this movie a shot.

Movie Critics (823 KP) rated The Bad Batch (2016) in Movies
Jun 19, 2017
The casting of the film is interesting, neither helping nor hindering it. Waterhouse is lovely to look at but can't bring much life to Arlen beyond her beguiling face (to be fair, there isn't much of a character for her to work with).

The Chocolate Lady (94 KP) rated Vintage Munro in Books
Oct 5, 2020
Alice Munro made history when she won a Nobel Prize for Literature, and became the first author of short stories to receive this prestigious award. After reading this collection, while I cannot fault the Swedish Academy for their choice, I can't say this collection should be your introduction to her work. Find out why in my review here https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2016/01/05/a-nobel-introduction/
The Chocolate Lady (94 KP) rated Moonglow in Books

Michael Chabon's newest novel lifts the accounts of his grandfather's life out of the sphere of mundane reality and directly into the realms of compelling fiction, with some artistic blurring along the way. Read more about what I think of this already acclaimed novel in my review here. https://tcl-bookreviews.com/2016/12/20/the-scale-of-a-family/ (4.5 stars is my real rating).
